Christian Baumann, the new head of Operation Rescue Switzerland introduces himself
A little bit of heaven on earth: I am passionate about helping the poorest children and giving them a chance for a better future. The needs, but also the way Operation Rescue responds to those needs, touches me every time. I am challenged and motivated to ensure the continued funding of our children’s aid projects.
My journey with Operation Rescue really took off in 2010 with my six-month assignment in Patos, Brazil. This formative time awakened in me the desire to work in Switzerland to ensure that the funding for our children’s aid remains secure and can even grow. Over the years, I have become more and more involved in the work of ORE and have been working full-time for the organisation since December 2024. The question of whether I would lead ORE into the future arose sooner than expected. Am I ready and suited for this? Will I and the members of the association succeed in providing for our centres so that they can continue their wonderful work?
I received a resounding yes to my questions, thanks in part to the certainty that I am not alone on this journey. Many people believe in ORE and support the project, whether through volunteer work or financially. Above all, however, my heart beats for helping the poorest children and giving them a chance for a better future. I have recently seen how necessary this is and how successful it can be during my visits to the nine centres in Brazil, Mozambique, Ethiopia and India. The hardship, but also the way in which ORE addresses this hardship, moves me every time. Now I am challenged and motivated to secure further funding for our children’s aid projects.
At the moment, I am focusing primarily on working with the site managers to ensure that the work continues to grow in terms of quality rather than quantity. In recent years, the number of children visiting us has grown steadily. With the help of Getachew, the director of Operation Rescue Ethiopia, I am now encouraging the directors to respond to the individual needs and abilities of the children. This will give them the best possible job and education opportunities later on. Depending on the circumstances at the locations where the centres are located, specific projects should also enable targeted assistance. Secondly, we are all working towards the goal of enabling the leaders to raise more funds locally and thus become less financially dependent on our donations. The aim is to raise awareness among the local population of the need to address the hardship in their region.
Thanks to your support, many lives have taken a positive turn to date, and thanks to you, many children can continue to be helped in the future. To ensure that our aid continues in the long term, I would like to encourage you to support Operation Rescue with a monthly donation, if you are not already doing so.
Operation Rescue also counts on your input and word of mouth! I am committed to growing the ORE family and steadily expanding the circle of people who make ORE possible. I would like to encourage you to recommend ORE to your friends and acquaintances. I would like to motivate you to volunteer at an ORE centre so that you can get to know ORE first-hand. I would be happy to tell you and your family, your company, your team, your church about ORE! I am enthusiastic about any ideas that help to make ORE better known.
I need you and your help! I cannot do it alone. Operation Rescue needs you to ensure the long-term survival of our centres!
Even a small amount of money can make a big difference in our centres because it is used in a targeted, economical and meaningful way. Thank you very much for your help so far and for your support in the future!
