There is also sustainable energy in Brazil

On more than half of all days in the year the temperature in Patos exceeds the 30 degree mark and the sun burns brightly from the sky daily. The energy consumption of our centre is considerable – it takes a lot of energy during the day to keep the food cool and to provide at least some ventilation to the rooms using fans. Electricity is expensive here compared to other countries.

The site manager in Patos submitted an application for a donation to a local firm which supplies solar energy solutions- which was successful: in July the donated solar panels, which should cover half of our energy consumption, were installed on our centre roof. The company said: our commitment to these children and their families would only be worth half as much if we forgot to care for the environment in which we live so that it continues to supply us with the resources we need for survival.
